Upper Elementary

October 21, 2021

From the Upper Elementary principal's Desk

Dear Upper Elementary School Parents,

I hope you all had a restful time with your family and friends during our October Break. My family ventured out to Salwa Beach Resort, and we enjoyed seeing many ASD students and their families enjoying time together at the water park. It was the furthest we’ve traveled out of Doha since arriving, and we had an amazing family trip.

This past week, our focus in the UES has been on student and staff wellness. Our Wellness Coordinator, Ms. Sarafin did a wonderful job creating wellness activities for students, daily quotes to promote a positive mindset, and delicious snacks for our staff to enjoy. Please see the pictures below that show some of our students in action during this enjoyable and healthful week.

Starting next week, we will begin to communicate student progress to parents. On Wednesday, October 27, you will receive an email with a link to your child’s recent MAPS Testing results. On Thursday, October 28, report cards will be available for you to view in PowerSchool. To top things off, we’ll be having virtual conferences with parents on Wed, Nov 3 and Thu, Nov 4. By tonight (10/21/21), you will receive an email from your classroom teacher with a link to sign up for these Zoom Conferences. A conference with World Language and Specialists teachers is not mandatory. As they work with the entire division and there is limited availability, the World Language and Specialists teachers will reach out to you if there is a need to speak together. Likewise, if you would like to request an appointment because of a concern, you may contact World Language and Specialists teachers directly to schedule a conference. Please note there is no school on Thursday, November 4 for Parent/Teacher Conferences.

As we continue to have students at school 100%, and we open up more fully, we are going to bring back some traditions. The first special tradition to return will be celebrating Halloween here at ASD on Sunday, October 31. Students will be able to come in costume (no blood/gore or weapons), there will be an outdoor parade, and there will be a classroom party run by the one official PTA Room Parent. This activity is not open to parents (other than the room parent) and is meant for students and staff. If you are wanting to donate treats/supplies for the party, please fill out this form here.

For Halloween and Birthdays, we are now going to permit (store bought/packaged) treats to be brought into school. Please do not send in any homemade items. Also, all treats need to be nut free, as we have many students with allergies. If you want to send a treat in for a special occasion, please send it with your child or deliver it to the office. We ask that parents do not walk these items to class, and instead have the office transport them to the classroom for you.

We’re excited to have a fun Halloween here at school and look forward to again permitting special occasion treats. These are fun, memorable experiences for our students and a return towards more normalcy. If you have any questions about items in this Sahifa or anything else, please feel free to reach out to our UES Office (4459-1550) during office hours, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm, Sunday - Thursday.

Regards,

Mr. Toby Tebo
