December 16, 2021

From the Office of The Director Steve Razidlo

Dear ASD Community,

Peace, safety, and good health are wishes we extend to all of our families as we head into the December break. Yesterday, all of the Giving Tree gifts were given out to members of our Acciona, bus monitor, landscaping, security, Jazz Cafe and Coffee Beanery teams. We offer thanks to all who bought gifts, and would like to let you know how sincerely and joyously they were received! Our teams of workers at ASD are made up of wonderful, hard-working, and dedicated people whose contributions are essential to the overall success of all facets of our school. Cooks, carpenters, cleaners, and all who work here are valued and were honored through your many gifts.

Thank you to the Booster Club for recreating the Holiday Market. Your contribution to the coming holiday afforded many of us gifts and decorations. We thank the many volunteers who contributed to the sale’s success (my second camel was a gift for a family friend!).

As we continue to come through the pandemic, we expect many ASD Alumni to visit in January. We know many Alumni are here in Qatar for visits over the Holiday break. We would like to take today’s Sahifa to extend an invite to our Alums on Wednesday, January 5. We are hoping for a great turnout! Please email alumni@asd.edu.qa if you plan to attend. Some 30+ alumni have already signed up, and it would be great to have more Alumni sign up to attend the January event.

Following the recent December 14, 2021 approval by the ASD Board, we would like to share next year’s academic calendar with all of our families. Highlights of the calendar include start and end dates which resemble recent years, and the combination of online learning and an extended December holiday during the period of the FIFA World Cup. It is our hope that sharing our calendar at this time affords families the opportunity to get a head start on planning for next year.

Finally, we wish Happy Holidays and Happy Qatar National Day to all of our families. We also like to extend a big thank you to the Arab Mothers Association for the fantastic National Day decorations in the MS/HS Lobby. December 18, 2021 is a milestone anniversary for Qatar, and a true celebration for all of us in the ASD community!

Sincerely,

Steve Razidlo

Director of the American School of Doha

From our School Community

The 18th of December, what an amazing date… On this day, Qataris decorate their cars and houses by putting on the national flag or other patriotic symbols. The country's flag is a unique combination of national identity and pride, a symbol of significance and belonging. National Day is an annual reminder of the country's core values, loyalty, solidarity and pride.

Like every year AMA with the collaboration with Al Fardan Group, decorated ASD with the two combined valuable colors, to let the students feel the importance of this day, and refresh their loyalty to this generous country.

On behalf of AMA we would like to congratulate the Arabic communities and all the expatriates and wishing a peaceful Holiday.

AMA Committee would like to thank “Brain Education” for a very inspiring and enlightening speech session for last Sunday conducted by Master Maz. His words and experiences are very strong and powerful that made us understand ourselves more and better and it can really help us in our everyday lives.

We will have another session with different topics this coming year and we encourage everyone to join us then as it is very worth it!

The link for the whole session will be shared with you soon.

The Senior Class was treated to a fun holiday surprise from our Jr/Sr Committee yesterday. They received fun senior socks and handmade gingerbread houses. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break!
