From the Office of The Director Steve Razidlo

Dear ASD Community,

Extra desks and chairs, extra sets of materials have been moved around the school building today. Teachers have been thinking through and planning for the changes coming Sunday to the delivery of their lessons, to the classroom communities they have built, to the daily lives of children at our school. Leaders have been busy anticipating the finer points of living under a new set of rules, and the ‘buzz’ around our community has been active all week. We are thrilled to welcome students back full time and to make this transition successful for all of our learners!

Sahifa this week includes slides from and a recording of the Zoom call offered to parents today; we hope the information supports your understanding of what today’s decision means to you and your family. At the heart of the matter for me is the powerful shift we will see in learning as students engage with more time, with greater focus, and with a fuller ‘presence’ inside a classroom community. Please see the slideshow below from the Community Meeting. The Zoom recording of the meeting is available HERE.

Our attention to community health must remain strong as we double our daily attendance. We are excited to act on today’s good news, and to inspire and empower our students as they return to the rhythms and the pulse of daily school!

Busing

Current bus schedules will continue until we return from Fall Break on Sunday, Oct 17. This means A day students will take the bus on A days, and B days students will take the bus on B days. Sunday, Oct 3, is an A Day.

Child Protection Handbook

At ASD we share our Child Protection Handbook annually with parents to create awareness of the standards and the expectations we hold for the care and protection of our ASD students. In every division at each level of schooling counselors and teachers deliver important lessons and information which helps in the overall effort to safeguard our students.

Please click HERE to access the Child Protection Handbook.

Sincerely,

Steve Razidlo

Director of the American School of Doha

A message from ASD Nursing

Greetings From ASD Nursing,

We are very pleased that we have received so many responses to our COVID-19 vaccination form. We are now able to more readily and quickly see who is vaccinated against COVID-19 and plan accordingly. If you have not yet filled out this form and you have a fully vaccinated student at home please click here to access it. Make sure you have the vaccination certificate or card accessible because a picture of it will need to be uploaded. Please also ensure that the documentation has the dates of both shots notated on it. According to the form responses, approximately 39% of our Middle School students and about 66% of our High School students are vaccinated against COVID-19. (Please be mindful that our MS population as a whole also includes students who are not yet eligible for vaccination based on age and the lower percentage reflects this.)

In addition, we also ask parents to be mindful in regards to student illness. If your student is out sick and they receive medical clearance but are still symptomatic and not well please keep them home until their symptoms resolve or are minimal. We have noticed that often if students are out for a longer period of time they will be reassessed by a doctor before giving final clearance to return to school.

Kind Regards,

ASD Nursing

A message from the HS Student tutoring Org

Hello ASD!

STO is an organization that can help you succeed in school – it is the opportunity for all students to be tutored in classes they're struggling in by our very own High School students (for free)! If this sounds interesting, sign up as a tutor and/or a learner by using this linked form (which will be available all year round on the STO Teneen page under the “Extras” tab). After signing up, students will be matched with a tutor who will reach out to them to discuss a convenient time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Gauri Sharma (24gsharma@asd.edu.qa), Prakrithi Jayanth (24pjayanth@asd.edu.qa), or our sponsor Mrs. Cice (kcice@asd.edu.qa).

Thank you!
