Lower Elementary
November 4, 2021
From the Lower Elementary Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents,
Halloween was at center stage in the Lower Elementary School this week. On Sunday, October 31, students came to school dressed up in costumes. Once again, we had numerous superheroes and an abundance of royalty amongst us in Lower Elementary! We also had many students dress up as community helpers, astronauts, and animals, in addition to other very creative costumes. Students took part in grade level costume parades and enjoyed class parties. It was great to see our students so excited about dressing up and enjoying Halloween celebrations. We would like to extend a special thanks to our homeroom parents and volunteer parents for all their efforts in organizing these parties.
Parent / Teacher Conferences
Yesterday and today, we held our parent/teacher conferences. Parent/teacher conferences are most definitely a time to celebrate the growth our students have made, as well as to discuss areas of potential growth and improvement. A solid partnership between home and school assists us all to work together towards our common goal of helping all students experience success at school. I would like to thank you for attending these conferences via Zoom and engaging in student centered learning conversations with our faculty. This engagement is truly a reflection of the high level of commitment our parents have in partnering with us in their children’s education. We continue to be greatly appreciative of the tremendous parent support we have in the Lower Elementary School.
MSA and World Language Update
Starting on Sunday, November 7, we will be reinstating our full scheduling of on-site world language lessons. Students will attend MSA and World Language (Spanish and Arabic as a Foreign Language AFL) lessons in mixed grouping across half a grade level at a time as we used to do in the past. MSA will be offered to KG students twice a week. In Grades 1 and 2, MSA, Spanish and AFL will be offered on an alternating basis with students attending these subjects twice a week on one week and three times a week on the following week. Students will remain with their same assigned MSA and World Language teachers.
Upcoming Virtual Parent Session
We will be holding a parent session on Monday, November 22 at 10:00 am focused on digital resources. Ms. Jenn McEwan, our LES Technology Integrator, will be presenting information about digital resources that can be used on the homefront to assist students to consolidate and extend their school learning. MESAC Swimming Championship!
Update November 4, 2021
The ASD Dragons swim team is participating in their MESAC Championships from Tuesday, November 9 through Thursday, November 11. This year the event is virtual with racing being held at the six schools around the region and results being reported at the end of each day. The results will be combined and scored each evening and by the end of Thursday, we will know the individual and team champions for MESAC swimming.
There are more than 30 members of the swim team who have been training four sessions a week since the beginning of the year. The team is quite strong and should be in the running for the overall team title. There will be some excellent individual results, all contributing to the team's point tally.
The swim team would love the support of the ASD community. Racing will take place each afternoon starting at 4:30 pm and running until just after 6:00 pm. We are hoping to live stream the events but watching in person and providing some loud cheers would be awesome.
We hope to see you out on the pool balcony next week. If you want a front row seat we are always looking for help on deck with timing the events. Please send Jeff Slater (jeff.slater@asd.edu.qa) an email if you are available any day to help out.
The team appreciates your support and we look forward to seeing you next week. Go Dragons!
