From the Upper Elementary principal's Desk

Dear Upper Elementary School Parents,

In the UES, we are so looking forward to celebrating our first, school-wide event this week. Halloween is a blast for all students, as they look forward to dressing up, having some treats, and a class party. On Sunday, students are encouraged to dress up and participate. Costumes must be appropriate for elementary-aged children and free of gore and weapons. If you’d like to send in treats for the party, please ensure these are store-bought items and nut free. As stated last week, this Halloween event is intended for students/staff and not parents. The one PTA Homeroom Parent will be on campus to help run the party. We are filming and photographing the event, and these clips/photos will be shared out.

Last night marked the beginning of our reporting out to you of your child’s progress. MAPS test results were emailed out to all parents as well as a description of these results. Yesterday, Report Cards became available on PowerSchool. Next week, we’ll have Zoom Conferences for all parents (Nov 3/4), and your child’s teacher should have reached out to you with an email to book your appointment. For specialists and learning support, they do not have the capacity to conference with each parent. If they have a need to meet with you, they will reach out to you via email. If you would like to meet with specialists and learning support, please reach out to them via email.

Squid Game is a popular Netflix series that has large amounts of violence. The show isn’t rated for children, but students are watching this show and wanting to reenact scenes here at school. Please take the time to review this resource with background information about the show and some talking points you can use with your children. As always, we want to ensure that school play here at ASD is positive and safe for all.

Have a great weekend and upcoming week.

Regards,

Mr. Toby Tebo

Upper Elementary Principal

Campus Access

Our security has noted that many students are trying to enter the campus without their DragonCard. This means students have to be processed manually in order to access campus, contributing to a long queue at all gates that spills into the parking lot and contributes to traffic. Please be advised that security is documenting when students attempt to enter the campus without their DragonCard for 3 or more consecutive days. If a student tries to enter campus for 5 days without a DragonCard we will automatically reissue the student a new DragonCard and deactivate their old card. The cost of the replacement is 50QR which will be deducted from the family account. In the event there are insufficient funds in the account, we will issue the card, but log this as an outstanding student obligation (i.e. PowerSchool reports will not be viewable until obligations are addressed).

We ask that all ASD students bring their DragonCard with them to school each day. If your child’s card is lost, they can purchase a new one for 50QAR upon their next arrival to ASD (available in central administration). Please ensure that sufficient funds are available on your child’s DragonCard.
