Parents Guide to Middle School

Important Contact Information:

School Day

Our school week is from Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm except on PACT Tuesdays when students go home at 12:30 pm.

Middle School students can enter through Gates 8, 10, or 12. (Please note that Gate 12 is only open during pickup and drop off and is for students only.) Parents can enter through Gates 8 and 10 with their school IDs. Parents who forget their ID’s at home should enter through Gate 8.

Change in Pick Up Plans

If there is a change of plans to your child’s regular pick-up arrangement, please let the Middle School Office know.

Absences: Pre-Arranged

Students with planned absences should contact the Middle School Office for a Pre-arranged Absence Form. Students need to take this form to all classes that will be missed during this absence to inform teachers.

Illness/Emergency

If your child will miss school, please send an email to msattendance@asd.edu.qa. Students who are absent for more than two days should bring a doctor’s note to the Middle School Office following their return to school.

Tardiness

If your child is tardy they can enter through Gate 8 or 10 and must come to the Middle School Office to sign in and pick up a Tardy Pass.

Early Student Checkout

Students who leave early during the day must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must have a gate pass from the Middle School Office. No student is permitted to leave school grounds before 3:00 pm unless they have a pass in hand.

Snacks and Lunches

Students are welcome to bring a snack to school to eat during their SWAT class. The dining hall is not open to students during snack time or breaks except on PACT Tuesdays.

Lunch is from 11:20 - 12:00 pm. Students can purchase lunch in our dining hall using their DragonCard. The menu is published in the Sahifa, the school’s weekly newsletter.

Students should also bring a water bottle to school every day, as ASD does not sell bottled water on campus in an effort to be more sustainable. Students can refill water bottles in the hallways through water fountains or filling stations.

Red Flag Days

During the hot months, the number of days that students are actively participating in an outdoor recess is limited because of the dangers associated with outdoor play in high temperatures.

On days when the temperature/heat index is extremely high, above 40C, students need to drink plenty of water and stay in the shade. Physical activity outside will be restricted, and students should stay inside the commons during breaks.

DragonCards

Students are issued a DragonCard upon enrollment. If the card is lost or breaks the replacement fee is QR 50.

DragonCard accounts can be topped-up at one of our two kiosks at school and also online at dragoncard@asd.edu.qa. Your username and password will be your parent ID number located on your ASD Parent ID Card.

Lost or damaged DragonCards can be purchased at the Main Reception desk located in the Central Administration building.

Birthday Snacks

It is permitted for students to celebrate their birthday with their SWAT classes. Students should talk with their SWAT teacher directly to choose the best day for this celebration.

PE Uniforms and Daily Footwear

Students must change into their PE uniforms from their school clothes. PE uniforms can be purchased at Noble House (https://trutexqatar.com/) or on campus during New Student Orientations. They will also sell PE uniforms on campus the first few weeks of school.

Students need to wear/bring footwear that is appropriate to PE on the days they have PE classes.

During the swimming unit, students must bring a one-piece swimsuit, towel, and swim cap.

After-School Activities and Sports Programs

ASD Middle School has a variety of After School Activities (ASA’s) including sports. These programs are announced to the students through Sahifa and during assemblies. Grade 8 students may also consider participation in MESAC sports teams with the High School.

School Communications

Sahifa, our school newsletter, is published weekly every Thursday.

Students are also encouraged to contact their teachers via email with any questions or concerns that they might have. Teacher emails are available in the front of our student planner.
